Obituaries

Daniel John Cronan III

Daniel John Cronan III, 22, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, tragically passed away on March 30, 2025, in an ATV accident. Daniel was the son of Daniel and Kristina Cronan of Wilkes-Barre. Born on January 1, 2003, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the first baby born in the new year. From the very start, he had a fire in his soul and a heart full of adventure. He grew up in Wilkes-Barre alongside his younger brother, Joseph, forming an unbreakable bond that only brothers can share. Growing up, Daniel and Joseph had best friends and loyal companions: Onyx, Chase, and Oreo. Daniel loved and treated each furry companion as if they were siblings. Daniel graduated from Hanover High School in 2022, leaving behind countless friendships and memories that will be cherished forever. He worked alongside his father at his father's automotive shop, DC Automotive.

He lived life on his own terms—fast, fearless, and full of love. His passion for motorcycles was unmatched, and nothing made him happier than hitting the open road with his friends, feeling the wind rush past him, and embracing the freedom that only riding could bring. Whether fixing up bikes in the garage or planning the next big ride, he found pure joy in everything with an engine.

Beyond his love for speed and adventure, Daniel was a person who deeply impacted everyone he met. He had a unique ability to make people feel important as if they truly mattered. He never hesitated to be there for his friends and family. His laugh was contagious, his energy unforgettable, and his loyalty unshakable. He was the friend who would drop everything to help, the son who always expressed love and gratitude, and the brother who was both a protector and a best friend. Daniel was profoundly loved, not only by his family but by his entire community. Through his generosity, humor, and simply his presence, he brought people together. His absence leaves an ache in the hearts of many, but his memory will live on in the stories we share, and he brought people together. His absence leaves an ache in the hearts of many, but his memory will live on in the stories we share, the rides we take, and the love that will never fade.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sandra and Eugene Koons, and Ruth and Joseph Kennedy Abend; and aunts, Sandra Cronan and Lisa Erickson (Shanny). He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Kristina Cronan; his brother, Joseph Cronan; aunt, Ruth Ungvarsky; uncles, Louis and Raymond Abend, and Eric Kennedy; as well as numerous cousins and countless friends who became like family. He now rides on in the hearts of those who knew him, reunited with loved ones who passed before him. A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held on Thursday, April 3rd from 6 pm -8 pm at George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, where we will come together to honor the incredible person he was.

Daniel lived every moment to the fullest, and though his time here was cut far too short, his spirit will never fade. Ride on, Danny—you will never be forgotten.

Sarah Knauer

Sarah (Witkowski) Knauer, 38, of Glen Lyon, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 18, at home.

She was born July 1, 1986, in the former Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, to Bernard “Sonny” and Susan (Guzofsky) Witkowski.

Sarah married the love of her life, Jason, on Oct. 7, 2017, after spending six years dating. Together, they shared a love for sports, movies, and anything pop culture. Sarah and Jason were each other’s better half, despite their different taste in hockey teams.

In childhood, Sarah was an altar server, attended Bible school, and painted the altar cloths at St. Adalbert’s Church in Glen Lyon. In elementary school, Sarah participated in a Christmas card-making contest and her design was selected as the winner to be sold to raise money for the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. In high school, she was selected as a freshman to be a backup singer for Andy Williams’ Christmas show at the arena in Wilkes-Barre Township. She also loved to play sports, including field hockey, soccer, Little League, cheerleading at St. Mary’s Church in Nanticoke, and participating in the school chorus ensemble and drama stage crew. She took pride in playing Jack’s mother and painting the cow for the school’s performance of “Into The Woods.”

Sarah graduated from Greater Nanticoke Area, Class of 2004, and earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2011. After graduating, she was employed as a clinical pharmacist at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. She also taught pharmacy to students at Wilkes University as an adjunct professor. Most recently, she was employed in Geisinger’s cardiology department. She was recently published in Cardiology Today’s October edition.

Sarah’s commitment and passion for her career were evident in the care she gave her patients and in the incredible, in-depth stories she could recite years later. Her immense intelligence shone through in everything she did. From her sharpness and quick wit to her cleverly sarcastic sense of humor, she was a one-of-a-kind type of person.

Sarah will be remembered for her immense love for learning, reading — particularly “Gone With The Wind” and “Harry Potter” — and drawing, shopping, and cosmetic fashion. She really knew how to do her makeup.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Clem and Geraldine Guzofsky; paternal grandparents, Bernard and Anna Witkowski; cousin, Herman Olenginski; and fur-babies, Rascal, Indie, Georgia, Katie, and Bell.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jason; parents, “Sonny” and Susan, Glen Lyon; uncle and aunt, David and Eleanor Guzofsky, Nanticoke; mother-in-law, Donna Knauer, Pittston Township; numerous loving cousins; and fur-babies, Charlie, RB, and Bonny.

It does not seem possible to portray in words the truly extraordinary life that Sarah lived. She had a fierce determination to educate and better herself constantly while being one of the most compassionate and caring people you could ever meet. The soul-deep love she had for her husband — that he returned absolutely — is what love stories are made of. She was the corner of her parents’ world. She will be missed deeply by so many.
